The Aboriginal Health Practitioner module has been developed specifically for Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) to assist them in gaining the knowledge, skill, competence and confidence required to assess and manage patients with wounds, within their scope of practice.

The module covers 8 units:

  • Unit 1: Scope of Practice
  • Unit 2: Skin Anatomy, Functions of the Skin, Wound Types, Wound Healing
  • Unit 3: Wound Assessment
  • Unit 4: Wound Management
  • Unit 5: Wound Dressings
  • Unit 6: Anatomy & Physiology of the Lower Limb
  • Unit 7: Assessment of the Lower Leg
  • Unit 8: Leg and Foot Ulcer Management, Venous Leg Ulcer Management, Arterial Leg Ulcer Management, Neuropathic Ulcer Management

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner Module is suitable for all Aboriginal Health Care employees who may look after people with a wound in community or clinic environments. It is also a great resource for all health professionals working collaboratively with AHPs in remote or rural Aboriginal communities. Access to the module is for 12 months and you can jump in and out of the course as often as you want, with each module remembering where you left off.

This module is accredited by the Australian College of Nursing and The Australian College of Midwives for 6 hours of CPD.
